More People, Places and Things
When you know where to look, cool stuff abounds. Texas weddings, Asian supermarkets, spectacular views of Austin. Any one of these attractions could be its own post, if only I could form a linear narrative. But why? Isn’t it more fun to go in multiple directions without any regard for chronology or context? Like how they found an enormous snake in one of the rooms where we were setting up for the wedding. The groom shooed it away with a rake before I even got there. I only knew about it because people kept referring to that room as the snake room. “You can put those bags in the snake room.” and “He went to the snake room, but he’ll be right back.” And what about how Austin’s tallest hill is less than 5 miles from my apartment? The last mile is mostly vertical. We biked there. Ouch. And how they sell the best snacks on earth at MT Supermarket. It’s like Sunrise Mart in New York but TEXAS-sized. You can buy pickled daikon in every shape, size and quantity ever manufactured. Meteor showers are amazing too, although pretty impossible to photograph with my sad little camera. Plus it was ridiculously cold the night of the Geminids. We only lasted about 45 minutes, but at a rate of 1-2 per minute that’s still a lot of shooting stars. Unfortunately clouds spoiled the FULL lunar eclipse that coincided with the winter solstice. It’s okay though, there should be another one in a millennium or two.
