Holiday Cheer
Well, I still haven’t gotten around to posting part 3 of the Big Bend camping pictures, and possibly I never will. Let’s not talk about that right now. In the meantime, the fabulous holiday known as Halloween has come and gone, and I have photographic evidence that I managed to put a costume together (see, I’m not completely unable to accomplish simple goals). In keeping with my tradition of...

Intermission
Your regularly scheduled programming of vacation photos will resume shortly. For now, we present this image of boring Austin (being invaded by aliens).

Big Bend: Day 2
In sharp contrast to my beach camping experience, I slept shockingly well on my first night in the Chisos mountains. A big part of the difference was in our equipment. Beach camping had involved cramming 4 girls into a 4-person tent. That sounds fine until you add all the backpacks, wet towels, sandy shoes etc. In Big Bend, Thomas and I had a 6-person tent all to our self. I was a bit skeptical...

Big Bend: Day 1
Because my recent camping trip generated more photographs than a single post should be required to hold. Because I already filled up my flickr account and don’t wish to upgrade to the premium version. Because it allows me to split up the work of photo editing into manageable chapters. For all these reasons, I will be present my Big Bend pictures as a day-at-a-time series. In case you don’t know...

Snow Day
Austin has seen some peculiar winter days since I’ve lived here, compliments of humanity’s insistence on proceeding with this whole global warming thing. Last year we had a bit of slushy pseudo-snow, and with it some confusion and shortened work schedules. It was slightly out of the ordinary, or so I’m told. But on Friday, February 4th of 2011 (yes, I’m a month late in posting these photos, what...

Holidays Part 2: Boxing Day
Thomas and I drove to Reimer’s Ranch on Boxing Day. We’d spent the previous evening (some holiday celebrating Jesus Christ’s birth I think) at my father’s house so it wasn’t terribly far away. I hadn’t seen the area since summer, when it had become the preferred swimming hole after most of the greenbelt evaporated. It’s much colder now and parts are under construction. They’re putting in a crushed...

Holidays Part 1: Thanksgiving
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I left work early and threw my bag into Thomas’ car. We drove north. Further north than I’d ever gone in this state. Further than Dallas, which I haven’t actually visited, but switched planes in one time. We left Austin during the height of a peculiar heat wave. I wore summer clothes and purchased an iced coffee on the way out of town. By the time we stopped for...

More People, Places and Things
When you know where to look, cool stuff abounds. Texas weddings, Asian supermarkets, spectacular views of Austin. Any one of these attractions could be its own post, if only I could form a linear narrative. But why? Isn’t it more fun to go in multiple directions without any regard for chronology or context? Like how they found an enormous snake in one of the rooms where we were setting up for the...
